Discovering the Val d’Elsa will turn out to be particularly inspiring, thanks to its many natural beauties and picture-postcard Tuscany villages.
Clearly, the must-see is world-famous San Gimignano, only 4 kms from Antica Dimora. Its high towers, monumental palaces, narrow alleys and small characteristic shops take you on a journey back to the Middle Ages. Notwithstanding the passage of centuries, San Gimignano has preserved its 14th-century appearance, making it worthy of UNESCO World Heritage recognition.

VILLAGES TO DISCOVER
Less famous, but no less interesting to discover, are the villages of Monteriggioni, famous for its 570-metre walls interspersed with 14 high towers, and Certaldo. A tourist destination of great interest, this latter has a more modern part, known as Certaldo Bassa, and a hillside part, representing the historic core of the medieval village. Here a visit to the numerous palaces of unspoilt beauty, small panoramic churches and the birthplace of Boccaccio, the famous writer and poet from the 14th century, cannot be missed.
For nature lovers, the Elsa River Park is ideal for walks or bike rides along the bathing watercourse, discovering waterfalls, caves, large boulders and river crossings.

Siena and Florence
Siena, with its characteristic redbrick palaces, its districts or ‘contrade’, squares and majestic monuments, will astound you for sure. You must absolutely see the Cathedral and Piazza del Campo, where every year, on the 2nd July and the 16thAugust, is held the famous Palio horse race with the lively participation of all the local people.
Only a few lines would not do justice to Florence, also known as the cradle of the Renaissance; but visiting the treasures of the Uffizi, enjoying the view from Brunelleschi’s dome or walking along Ponte Vecchio at sunset will bestow unrivalled emotions.
Lucca, Pisa and the Tuscan coast
And more… moving westwards you reach the cities of Lucca, also known as the city of 100 churches, or Pisa for a visit to Piazza dei Miracoli with its Baptistery, the Holy Field and the Cathedral with its characteristic bell tower, commonly called the Leaning Tower.
Finally, excellent options for hot summer days are San Vincenzo, a seaside village with a beautiful long sand beach, or Castiglioncello, sea town considered a very trendy place among high society of the past, located in the heart of the Etruscan Coast.

A dip in the sea of the Maremma Natural Reserve
Just two hours’ drive from Antica Dimora Bed & Breakfast, you can reach the most beautiful and wildest Tuscan coastline, the Maremma. A variety of natural landscapes to discover, from long white beaches to Mediterranean pine forests, to small-protected coves that can only be reached on foot, like the beautiful Cala Violina. A pearl not to be missed is Castiglion della Pescaia, that stretches along the coast and up to the Mount Petriccio, on the top of which the ancient castle dominates the surrounding valley.
